It’s hard not to get demoralized at times when it comes to being in dogs at any capacity. This year has been especially trying to say the least and it’s only half over…Unfortunately this blog shares the theme of the year so far. We say goodbye to yet another of our seniors. Galena Creek’s Born Of Fire At Keahi *Kenna* left us in the afternoon June 5th. She was claimed by cancer, much like her sister Enya a couple years earlier it came suddenly and took her quickly. Kenna was added to our kennel with hopes that she would be the next generation of show dogs and future hopeful breeding prospect. Unfortunately her size and structure disqualified her from both of those hopes. But she was a lovely companion and was able to run recreationally in harness, helping us start down the trail to running our dogs more competitively. We knew we were on borrowed time with her after her sister’s sudden passing. The vets had suspected cancer to be a likely culprit and we always knew it was possible we could lose Kenna the same way. We were blessed with a few more years until the mass made itself known. Kenna was ever the clown. I miss her happy dance she did every night from one end of her kennel run to the other at dinner time. To say she’s missed is not enough. It’s been hard closing this early chapter in our existence. The last of our first show prospects have passed, and while they may not have met the ‘mark’ and many told us to just throw them away….each brought their own set of special memories and lessons with them. We mourn the loss, but find peace in her passing.

CategoriesAuthorMy passion for the Siberian Husky began early in my Montana childhood. The journey has been enlightening so far, with much learned and even more to discover. I hold the conviction that one is never too old, too seasoned, or too self-assured to learn something new. Moreover, I consider knowledge to be of no value unless it is shared with others. |
